Overview

The Manaslu Expedition is a thrilling mountaineering adventure that takes climbers to the summit of Mount Manaslu (8,163m/26,781ft), the eighth-highest mountain in the world. Located in Nepal’s Gorkha district, Manaslu offers a challenging yet rewarding climb with fewer crowds compared to Everest. The mountain is known for its remote location, breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, and a technically demanding ascent.

This guide provides essential information, including the trek outline, best time to climb, required permits, and physical fitness requirements, ensuring you are well-prepared for a successful Manaslu summit.

Best Time to Climb Manaslu

Choosing the right Manaslu climbing season is crucial for safety and success.

Spring (April-May)

  • Stable weather with warmer temperatures at high altitudes
  • Lower avalanche risk due to compacted snow
  • Popular climbing season with well-established routes

Autumn (September-October)

  • Clear skies and excellent visibility
  • Cooler temperatures with fewer climbers than in spring
  • Reliable weather window for summit attempts

Winter (December-February) and Monsoon (June-August) are not recommended due to extreme cold, high winds, heavy snowfall, and increased avalanche risks.

For the best chance of reaching the summit, plan your Manaslu Expedition in spring or autumn.

Manaslu Expedition Permits and Fees

Since Mount Manaslu lies in a restricted area, climbers must obtain several permits.

  1. Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP) – Issued by Nepal’s Immigration Department.
  2. Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) – Required for entry into the protected area.
  3. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) – Needed for the exit route.
  4. Manaslu Expedition Permit – Official climbing permit issued by the Nepal Government.

Important Notes:

  • A minimum of two trekkers is required to obtain the Restricted Area Permit.
  • All climbers must hire a licensed guide through a registered trekking agency.
  • The total Manaslu permit cost varies depending on the season.

Applying for Manaslu climbing permits in advance ensures a smooth expedition process.
