The next day, you continue your trek toward Khutumsang after enjoying the view from the Chisapani viewpoint. It takes around 5 hours to reach Khutumsang. During the trek, you will walk beside farmlands and meadows, enjoying the beautiful views of the Langtang mountain range.

It takes you through lush forests, terraced fields, and Buddhist monasteries while giving you a chance to experience the Sherpa and Tamang cultures. Since it doesn’t go to extreme altitudes, it’s a great choice for beginners or those looking for a quieter, less crowded trek.

2. How difficult is the trek?

The Helambu Trek is considered moderate, meaning it’s not too difficult but does require some stamina. You’ll walk about 5 to 7 hours a day with some uphill and downhill sections. The highest point is Thadepati Pass (3,650m), which is still lower than many other treks, making altitude sickness less of a concern. It’s perfect for first-time trekkers or those looking for a relaxed but rewarding Himalayan experience.

3. What permits do I need?

To trek in the Helambu region, you’ll need:

  • Langtang National Park Entry Permit – USD 30 per person

You’ll stay in teahouses and small lodges along the route. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and meals include Nepali staples like dal bhat (rice and lentils), noodles, and momos. Hot showers and WiFi may be available at some places, but don’t expect luxury—this is a chance to experience authentic mountain life!

6. Do I need a guide or porter?

This trek can be done independently, as the trails are well-marked. However, hiring a guide can make your experience richer by helping you navigate and understand the local culture. If you don’t want to carry a heavy backpack, a porter can be a big help, especially on uphill sections.

Packing light but smart is key. Essentials include:

  • Comfortable trekking shoes
  • Warm layers (especially for evenings)
  • Rain jacket (if trekking in monsoon)
  • A reusable water bottle with purification tablets
  • Sleeping bag (optional, but useful in colder months)

Your guide or trekking company can provide a detailed packing list based on the season.
