Your journey begins in Lhasa, the heart of Tibetan culture and spirituality. Scenic Drive to Shigatse and Everest Base Camp

Day 01

Welcome to Lhasa – Gateway to the Roof of the World

Your Tibetan adventure begins as you arrive in Lhasa, the heart of Tibet! Whether you arrive by plane or train, our warm and welcoming Tibetan guide will greet you with a ceremonial Hada scarf, symbolizing purity and good fortune. As we drive to your hotel in downtown Lhasa, take in the mesmerizing views of the Yarlung Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra), the longest and largest river in Tibet, and the serene Lhasa River. Once you check into your hotel, take time to relax and acclimatize to the high altitude. In the afternoon or evening, your guide will meet you with a special Tibetan gift, provide essential travel tips, and introduce you to your fellow travelers. Day 02

Explore the Sacred Monasteries – Drepung & Sera

Wake up to the crisp mountain air and get ready for an enlightening day exploring the spiritual heart of Tibet. Start your journey at Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in Tibet, home to over 10,000 monks. As you walk through the grand Coqen Hall, your guide will share deep insights into Tibetan Buddhism, its philosophies, and the influential figures who shaped its history. You’ll also visit the renowned Loseling College, where monks undergo rigorous academic training, and explore their humble yet fascinating living quarters. In the afternoon, visit Sera Monastery, another of Tibet’s 'Great Three' Gelug monasteries. Witness the famous Tibetan Monks Debate (3:00 - 5:00 PM, Monday to Saturday), a lively and thought-provoking tradition that showcases the monks' deep knowledge and reasoning skills. End the day with a delightful welcome dinner, where you’ll savor authentic Tibetan cuisine and bond with your fellow travelers.
Day 03

Discover UNESCO Heritage Sites – Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple

Today’s highlights take you to two of Tibet’s most revered UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Start with a visit to the iconic Potala Palace, the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas. From its grand halls and golden stupas to the meditation cave of the 33rd King of Tibet, every corner of this architectural wonder tells a story of Tibet’s deep spiritual legacy. Enjoy panoramic views of Lhasa Old Town from the palace’s vantage points. Next, stroll through Longwangtan Park, a hidden gem where locals gather for morning prayers and social activities. Here, you can capture breathtaking views of the Potala Palace from a different perspective. In the afternoon, visit Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Lhasa. Observe devoted pilgrims prostrating in front of the temple, and step inside to see the revered statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at age twelve. Then, immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of Barkhor Street, where you can join the locals in their kora (ritual walk) and explore the bustling marketplace filled with Tibetan handicrafts. Wrap up your day with a visit to a traditional Tibetan tea house, where you’ll sip on sweet Tibetan tea while learning about daily Tibetan life from your guide. Lastly, explore Ping’an Courtyard, the oldest residential courtyard in Lhasa, offering an authentic glimpse into the lives of Tibetan families.
Day 04

Scenic Drive to Shigatse via Gyantse – 360 km

Get ready for a breathtaking overland journey as we leave Lhasa and travel towards Shigatse, passing through some of Tibet’s most scenic landscapes. Our first stop is the Gampala Pass (4,790m), where you’ll witness the stunning Yamdrok Lake (4,400m), a turquoise gem surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks, including Mount Nyenchen Khangsar (7,191m). Enjoy multiple vantage points to soak in its beauty. We’ll then visit a local Tibetan village for a traditional lunch with a Tibetan family, offering a rare opportunity to experience Tibetan hospitality and culture firsthand. Next, marvel at the Korola Glacier, Tibet’s largest glacier, where the ice tongue cascades down the hillside, creating a mesmerizing contrast against the blue sky. Before reaching Gyantse, we’ll stop at Simila Mountain Pass, where you can hang prayer flags and send blessings for world peace and good fortune. Arriving in Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city, you’ll have time to relax and prepare for tomorrow’s journey to Everest Base Camp.
Day 05

Journey to Everest Base Camp

Today, we embark on an unforgettable adventure towards the majestic Everest Base Camp (EBC). Our first stop is Gyatsola Pass (5,280m), where you’ll catch your first glimpse of Mount Everest, its snow-covered peak emerging like a mystical lotus behind the surrounding mountains. Entering the Mount Everest National Nature Reserve, we ascend to Gawula Pass (5,198m), a breathtaking viewpoint offering a panoramic view of five of the world’s highest peaks, with Everest standing proudly at the center. As we drive along the zigzag mountain roads, Everest gradually unveils itself with every turn, leaving you in awe. Upon arrival at Everest Base Camp (5,000m), stand in the shadow of the world’s tallest peak. As the sun sets, witness Everest glowing in golden hues—an unforgettable sight. At night, if the skies are clear, marvel at the Milky Way shimmering above Everest, a celestial spectacle unlike any other.
Day 06

Everest Base Camp to Gyirong Border

Wake up early to witness Mount Everest bathed in the golden light of sunrise before heading to Rongbuk Monastery (5,154m), the world’s highest monastery. Here, monks and nuns live together, continuing a centuries-old tradition of Buddhist study and meditation. From here, we begin our descent through dramatic landscapes, from the icy Himalayas to lush green valleys. En route, we pass by Mt. Shishapangma (8,027m), one of the world’s highest peaks, and the serene Pelku Tso Lake, reflecting the towering mountains around it. As we approach Gyirong, the scenery transforms—snow-capped peaks give way to waterfalls, dense forests, and deep gorges, making for a stunning contrast. Arriving in Gyirong Valley, nestled in the Himalayas, you’ll find yourself surrounded by fresh mountain air, dense greenery, and breathtaking views—a perfect farewell to Tibet.
Day 07

Gyirong Border to Kathmandu

Today, you bid farewell to Tibet and step into the warm embrace of Nepal! After breakfast, you will part ways with your Tibetan guide and driver. Upon reaching the Nepal border, our friendly Nepali team will be there to welcome you. They will assist you with your Nepal visa application and, if needed, help transport your luggage (additional cost applies). Once formalities are complete, enjoy a comfortable transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu with Tibet Vista’s dedicated vehicle, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free journey.

  • Tips for the guide and driver: If you're satisfied with their service, it is recommended to tip $7 (50 RMB) per person per day, to be shared between the guide and driver.
