Overview

The Mardi Himal Trek is one of Nepal’s most popular short-duration treks, known for its breathtaking mountain views and rewarding trails. This beautiful journey can be completed in just 5 days starting and ending in Pokhara. For those with limited time, we also offer 3-day and 4-day itineraries, allowing trekkers to enjoy the Mardi Himal experience even on a tight schedule. If you’d like a longer adventure, the trek can be combined with other famous routes in the Annapurna region, such as Poon Hill, Khopra Ridge, or the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

Situated in the heart of the Annapurna region, the Mardi Himal Trek is ideal for beginner trekkers, families, and experienced hikers alike. The trail takes you through lush rhododendron forests, peaceful villages, and scenic high-altitude meadows, eventually leading to the stunning Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 meters (14,764 ft).

For beginners, the well-marked paths and gradual ascents make this trek a perfect introduction to Nepal’s Himalayas. Meanwhile, seasoned trekkers will enjoy the rewarding climb to Base Camp and the spectacular views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). With its blend of natural beauty, adventure, and accessibility, the Mardi Himal Trek offers an unforgettable experience for all.

If you’re searching for the best Mardi Himal trekking packages, you’re in the right place. On this website, you’ll find a variety of itineraries — from ultra-short routes to longer combined treks — designed to suit every type of traveler.

Difficulty

The Mardi Himal Trek is a moderate trek—challenging enough to be rewarding but manageable for most trekkers with average fitness. The trails are well-marked, though they feature steep climbs and some rocky sections. The trek’s highest point, Mardi Himal Base Camp, reaches 4,500m, so altitude can be a challenge for some.

Shorter than the Annapurna Base Camp or Everest Base Camp treks, Mardi Himal requires less physical endurance, but it’s still wise to prepare with some walking or hiking beforehand. Moving at a steady pace and staying well-hydrated helps with altitude adjustment. With the guidance and support of Haven Holidays, the trek becomes safer, easier, and more enjoyable.

Best Season

The ideal times for trekking the Mardi Himal are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these months, the skies are generally clear, temperatures are mild, and the mountain views are stunning. Spring treats trekkers to vibrant rhododendron blooms, while autumn offers crisp weather and excellent visibility. Rain and snow are less likely in these seasons, making the trails safer and more comfortable. For the best overall experience, spring and autumn are highly recommended for anyone planning the Mardi Himal Trek.

Inclusions

What's included

What's not included

Meals on the Mardi Himal Trek are carefully prepared to provide warmth, energy, and comfort as you ascend through changing altitudes. Teahouses offer a mix of traditional Nepali dishes and familiar international meals, ensuring variety and nourishment throughout the journey. The iconic Dal Bhat—a combination of rice, lentil soup, vegetables, and pickles—remains the most reliable choice, offering a balanced mix of carbohydrates and protein. Its unlimited refills make it ideal for trekkers covering long distances each day.

Breakfasts are hearty and designed to fuel morning climbs, with options like porridge, eggs, Tibetan bread, or pancakes served alongside tea or coffee. These meals supply slow-releasing energy to sustain trekkers throughout the day. As the trek gains altitude, food options simplify due to the challenges of transporting fresh ingredients. Nevertheless, teahouses maintain high standards of preparation and hospitality. Many trekkers prefer lighter evening meals—such as garlic soup, vegetable noodle soup, or boiled potatoes—which aid digestion and support acclimatisation.

Meal prices gradually rise with altitude because of the extra effort required to transport ingredients to higher camps. Despite this, the food remains fresh, wholesome, and satisfying, reflecting the warmth and dedication of local families who ensure trekkers are well-fed even in remote locations.

Sample Mardi Himal Trek Menu: Tibetan bread, vegetable curry, boiled eggs, and ginger tea.

Hydration is equally important on the trek, as altitude, physical exertion, and dry mountain air increase fluid loss. Staying well-hydrated supports both comfort and acclimatisation.

Water Options Along the Mardi Himal Trek

  • Bottled Mineral Water: Available up to Rest Camp, typically priced between 100–150 NPR per bottle. While convenient, bottled water generates plastic waste, so it’s recommended to switch to refillable options above Rest Camp.

  • Boiled or Filtered Water: Commonly offered at teahouses beyond Rest Camp. Prices range from around 150 NPR per litre near Rest Camp to approximately 300 NPR per litre at High Camp, reflecting the extra effort required to provide safe water at higher altitudes.

  • Tap or Spring Water: Found near villages and along sections of the trail. Even if it appears clean, it should always be purified with tablets, a UV SteriPEN, or a portable filter before drinking to ensure safety.
